NAMI Pennsylvania
[National Alliance for the Mentally Ill]
http://namipa.nami.org/

NAMI is today's major force behind the national movement to bring dignity and meaningful recovery to individuals with brain disorders. NAMI is instrumental in achieving federal legislation that brings parity in insurance coverage for brain disorders.

Founded in 1983, NAMI PA (formerly known as the Alliance for the Mentally Ill of Pennsylvania ) is the largest statewide non-profit organization dedicated to helping mental health consumers and their families rebuild their lives and conquer the challenges posed by severe and persistent mental illness.

This mission is accomplished through programs designed to offer support and education to our membership and to advocate for better mental health services on their behalf.

We also strive to educate the public about the true nature of mental illness to combat the stigma and discrimination often faced by persons with mental illness. More than 60 affiliates meet across the Commonwealth in support of these programs.

NAMI PA offers the Family to Family Education course for members who have adult children and an educational program specific to the needs of families of children and adolescents. The NAMI-CAN, for young families, and NAMI-CARE, for consumers, models of support are also available. An annual conference, educational courses for health care provider staff and criminal justice professionals, and participation in the Open Your Mind public education campaign are all part of the NAMI PA effort.

If you have questions about mental illness or our support services, want to find the NAMI PA affiliate in your community, become a member, or make a tax-deductible donation, please call us at 717-238-1514, or toll-free in PA 1-800-223-0500. Office hours are 9 am-5 pm, Monday through Friday.
